|Dental musical drill|
After seeing the fear in his patient’s eyes, mostly with kids but some adults as well, when he started using the dreaded drill, dentist Dhanni Gustiana from Indonesia has created a musical drill to help ease fears of his patients.
Gustiana is a dental surgeon from Purworejo in Central Java. He has transformed a conventional dental drill by changing the buzzing sound to music from a MP3 player. With the musical drill, patients have the choice to choose one of many songs.
"The children are not afraid of the dentist. They used to get scared when they heard the noise of the drill. I modified this by putting a toy on the drill and telling them that the toy will clean their teeth," Gustiana said.
Gustiana has spent about $600 modifying the drill, but he feels it is well worth since it is much easier and more pleasant to work with kids who are calm.
