(Scroll down for video) Sheep fell on cars in a busy Australian highway after a truck carrying 400 cattle crashed while crossing an overpass, spilling its cargo in the way of terrified motorists below.

The dramatic accident Thursday night near Melbourne saw the fall of the live sheep killing and injuring dozens of sheep.

Police said a vehicle rolled over several times, but the occupants were not injured.
"The truck was hanging over the overpass above the Princes Highway," police said in a statement.

"A number of sheep had fallen to the road below, striking two vehicles."
Drivers described the scene as chaotic.
"There was nothing we could do. They were, like, literally, on top of us," said a woman whose car
was beaten up by falling sheep.

"I just ran straight into them. She shouted. I slammed on the brakes and we are so fortunate. My car is an absolute necessity for me, but the sheep, I feel so bad for them. It's horrible, it really is."

Television footage showed the truck hanging precariously from the bridge, with the dead sheep spread out on the road below.

Police said the truck had rolled over and crashed on a curve. It appears that other vehicles were involved in the accident.
