Makayla Darnell was attacked by the family pet, identified by the news media as a four or five year old pit bull, as he sat in the living room of the house in Beaverdam.
Her parents, Audrianna Myers and Jared Darnell - who were in the kitchen, said they heard no sound, either from the baby or the dog until after the attack
on Thursday night. Makayla was rushed to the hospital, but she could not be saved.
"Everything seemed to happen in a matter of seconds," said an investigator.
The dog has been captured and an autopsy is being carried out at Makayla.
