Protesters hurled containers and metal barriers at a police station in Brussels on Thursday night after a Muslim woman, was arrested for refusing to remove a veil that covered her face, Belgian media reported.

"They tried to enter by force, but were not able to do," said a police spokesman in Brussels. "So instead they threw metal barriers and bins."

Six protesters were arrested, according to a state broadcaster. The woman was released and expected to be questioned later.

Belgium and France, both outlawed women from wearing a face veil in public last year.

Belgian state broadcaster VRT and newspapers said the woman faced off with police at a bus stop and a policeman was injured. "Finally, the women's veil was removed and she was taken to a hospital with a mild concussion," said a police spokesman.

The woman's husband went to the police station later that day to complain, along with 20 others.
A police spokesman in Brussels was not immediately available to confirm the details of the protest or detention.
