Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested in an internet cafe in Berlin after someone recognized him and alerted police, the Berlin police spokeswoman Kerstin Ziesmer said.
Magnotta is wanted by Canadian authorities of first-degree murder and other charges. He is suspected of killing Jun Lin a 33 year old student and sending his body parts in the mail to the Canadian political parties’ headquarters.
A Canadian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the arrest.
"The agents arrested him at the site, which he showed no resistance," said Ziesmer. "He says he is the person sought," he said, while cautioning that their identity has yet to be confirmed independently by the German authorities.
The suspect is being questioned, and will be brought before a judge behind closed doors who will read the international arrest warrant.
Interpol has Magnotta, last believed to be in Paris, on their most wanted list.
