2 arrested for breaking into home and eating owner's ear

Two men were arrested Thursday for breaking into an apartment and chewing off the ear of the occupants in the southwestern suburbs Braidwood.

Cody Loeffelmann , 21, and Matthew Bryner, 20, both of Kewanee south are charged with aggravated assault, unlawful, theft and vandalism.

The head of the Braidwood Police said the victim knew one of the suspects and had participated in a "dispute" over a woman.

At 12:45 am Loeffelmann and Bryner went to the apartment of the victim and forced their way inside.
"They tried to stab him with a knife they had brought, he was beaten, held it down and then one of them bit off the top half of his ear," Girot said.

The intruders fled after "destroying" the contents of the house, and neighbors called police after hearing the screams of the victim, Girot said.
The man was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where surgeons determine that the ear piece could not be reattached.

Girot said the victim identified Loeffelmann and Bryner as his attackers, and warrants were issued for their arrest. The two were later arrested in Henry County.
Bryner is held under on $100,000 bond, while Loeffelmann was held at $150,000 bond.
