Police tasered an 80 year old woman in front of this house
After being confronted by a naked woman quoting Scripture on the streets of St. George, South Carolina, police tried to calm her down and covered her with a blanket.

But the woman 80 years of age apparently responded by hitting the officers with her walking stick so they used a Taser to subdue her.

Dorris Brown's neighbors have complained about her treatment, saying. "They could have done something different."

One night last month a police officer was awakened by Mrs. Brown, causing a commotion outside a house where she used to live in St. George, which calls itself "the city of friendly people."
The old woman, who was naked at the time, broke some windows in the house, after an argument with the owner.

The officer, along with three other members of the police department, tried to speak with Mrs. Brown, but she began to quote the Bible and said she is working.
She also was swinging her stick around, and when an officer tried to tackle her from behind the officer was almost cut in the head ", according to city police Chief Anthony Britt.
Mr. Britt told another officer, "She is in a safe position, just go ahead and tase her so we can prevent anyone from getting hurt," he told the news media.

Despite the shock, she continued her tirade quoting the Bible until the police managed to wrap her in a blanket.
Mrs. Brown has been sent for psychiatric evaluation, and her family apparently has thanked the officers for their involvement.
The police chief has insisted that the use of the Taser was the only way to resolve the situation, telling the news media: "We did everything we could do. We had to stop her before someone got
hurt.

He added that Mrs. Brown is "usually a sweet old lady."
The neighbors agreed with that assessment, but many of them suggested that the police had overreacted to 80 year old.
"She's the sweetest lady in the world," a neighbor said. "I do not know why they had to shoot her."
Doreather Green added: "That's bad, bad. Could have done something else besides tasing her with the gun."
Mrs. Brown has been described as "a lady that is very, very religious" who attends church twice a week.
