Yasser Lopez, 16, was in serious condition Tuesday at Jackson Memorial Hospital Center Ryder Trauma.
The gun went off accidentally while being loaded. Lopez was hospitalized with a 3 feet or about 1 meter of the spear protruding from his forehead.
Doctors say that the spear came into his head by 2 inches or 5 centimeters above his right eye and exited through the back of his skull. Miami
Dade Fire Rescue tools were used to cut the spear that Lopez could be a transported to the hospital.
The rest of the lance was removed in surgery that took three hours.
The doctors said that the spear missed major blood vessels in the brain. Lopez said he does not remember the accident.
Doctors expect the teen to make a full recovery.
