|11 year old girl beat this puppy to death|
An 11-year-old upstate New York girl was charged with two felonies for allegedly brutally beating a puppy of her adoptive mother to death with her own hands.
She told police she killed the puppy because she did not get her request fulfilled, state police said.
The Saratoga girl was reportedly staying at a shelter overnight in Lake George on Sunday when the girl asked for a ride.
"The foster mother said no," said Trooper Mark Cepiel. "Later, she caused injury to the dog and the dog died."
She is accused of beating the 13-week-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel into a pole of the bed and into the floor until the dog died, the news media reported.
Police accused her of aggravated animal cruelty and criminal behavior, which is related to the dog that belongs to someone else and is worth over $1,500.
The case is being handled in Family Court of Warren County, because of her young age.
The Probation Department of Warren County could put the child in a diversion program or have the case be tried in court.
Cathy Cloutier, executive director of the Humane Society of the State of New York, told the news media that is rare to see such a brutal act involving someone so young.
"This is definitely a case of violence," said Cloutier. "The correlation between domestic violence and animal abuse is a known fact."
In the 11-year-old case, "we cannot ignore the fact that this child really needs major help, it would not take long for other people to be victims of this troubled young girl," said Cloutier.
The office of the Warren County prosecutor declined to comment on the case.
