JetBlue pilot injured by laser attack

Shining lasers on airplanes is fairly common. However this time the flying pilot was injured by the attack.

A JetBlue pilot was wounded in the eye when the plane he was flying was attacked by a laser on Long Island, New York.

It happened in Islip. An initial report on by the Federal Aviation Administration described the injury as minor. The pilot was not identified in the report on the incident.

It happened on JetBlue flight 657 on the way to New York JFK International Airport. The flight had
originated in Syracuse.
The plane landed safely and nobody except the pilot was injured.

Lasers beamed in the eyes of pilots have been an ongoing problem. a JetBlue pilot says he was briefly blinded by a laser before landing at JFK International Airport.

Pointing a laser at an aircraft is a federal crime. If convicted it could result in years in prison.
