(Scroll down for video) A dog left the family home to search for his owner when it finally tracked him down at the local hospital, according to reports.

How could the dog possibly have known that his owner was in the hospital? That is a question that John and Priscilla Dolan are trying to answer with so much news media buzz about their dog, Zander.

Zander is a husky that the Dolans rescued from a shelter. The dog also loves to run. Nobody expected the dog to run to the hospital. Yet that is exactly what the 70-pound dog did.

Zander slipped through a back door at the family home in Bay Shore, and before dawn, he started running. John was in a hospital bed at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Islip, Long Island, New York, when he received a call from a stranger, saying he had his dog and he had to come get him.

The caller was across the street from the hospital, and he grabbed John's number and called him because the number was written on the dog’s label.

"The dog was really there looking for him," Priscilla Dolan said. Nobody really knows how the dog knew he was there, because he had never been in the hospital before. Maybe just because a dog is a man's best friend. John Dolan agrees.

"We are friends," he said. "He came to see me!" Dolan said.
