Two little children were found safe but a mile away from school after they walked out from kindergarten, according to reports.
Two families of Philadelphia are outraged after their kindergarten children apparently wandered outside their primary school classroom and found over an hour later a mile away.
The teacher of 6-year-old Zavier McIntyre and 5-year-old Ameen Smith saw the children run out of their classrooms in the morning but said they could not pursue them because they had to tend to the other students.
The teacher said that instead they called the main office. However, no one was there at the front door of the school, usually watched by a parent volunteer.
The mothers of the children told the local TV station that what they know the school was not aware of missing children until a neighbor saw them wandering around the neighborhood and called the school.
"These children walked right past the office through the front door and no one has seen them," one of the grandmothers told the news media. "Something must be done at that school."
A school district police officer finally found the children about a mile away and returned them to their parents. A school district spokesman said that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
"We are following the case with the school district and the district police, because this cannot happen to anyone's child," the children’s mothers told the newspaper.
