A man thought it is a great idea to let a Pit Bull babysit a little boy, according to police reports.

James R. Irvine, 41, was arrested and charged with child neglect after the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said that the Palm Coast, Florida, man went to a bar and left a 10-month-old boy home with a pit bull to look after him.

The baby's mother, whose name has not been released, told authorities she was working on Friday night and left Irvine, her boyfriend, to care for her son.

The woman said she called Irvine multiple times before 11:00 pm. He did not answer the first few times, but eventually picked up to say he was "watching the game" before hanging up on her, according to the sheriff's report obtained by a local Florida newspaper.

The woman returned home to find Irvine urinating on himself when trying to enter through the garage door. She told officials that Irvine admitted he had been drinking, but said he had not really leave her son alone, because the "pit bull was watching the baby."

According to the report, the mother found her son crying alone in a room with the door closed. The dog was reportedly sitting outside. The woman contacted authorities, and Irvine was arrested around 12:30 am Saturday.

Deputies said Irvine told them he had been home all afternoon on Friday. A bartender at a local bar, however, told investigators she saw Irvine around 9:30 pm, the sheriff's report states. She also said he did not pay his bill.

Irvine was arrested but has been released on $1,500 bail.
