A woman praised a police officer for shooting her crazy former boyfriend, according to press reports in Brooklyn, New York.

The Brooklyn, New York woman is praising the New York City Police Department police officer who shot her former lover when he came to her with a pair of scissors Wednesday.

Maureen Hilliard told news reporters that the officer who shot her former boyfriend twice in the chest and abdomen saved her life. "If the police were not there, I would probably not be here," Hilliard said. "They did what they had to do. He was a danger," she added.

Hilliard, 39, an account manager at an engineering firm, had recently separated from her alleged assailant, Keary Green, 40.

In the incident, Green, who is 6-foot-2 and weighing 300 pounds, started acting crazy inside Hilliard's apartment near Fort Greene Park. He forced her outside of the apartment so she flagged down the police.

When police later returned to the apartment on Fort Greene Place, Green was found holding the scissors to her neck, police said, that is when the police officer shot him several times.

Green was rushed to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. He had surgery on Wednesday and has since been stabilized. Green is expected to be charged with assault. The officer is not expected to be charged, but all police shootings are investigated internally.
