A plane that was supposed to leave a Seattle, Washington airport was delayed after a child refused to wear his seat belt.

A 3-year-old, who refused to use his safety belt, caused a flight to be delayed after his father could not get him locked in his seat belt on board an Alaska Airlines plane.

The pilot returned to the gate on Saturday and asked the father and child to get off the plane.

Alaska Airlines said that an unrestricted child is a safety issue and the pilot preferred to deal with him on the ground rather than mid-flight.

The father, Mark Everett Yanchak, said the crew overreacted.
