A 6-year-old New York girl saved herself from drowning in a lake by holding onto a dead woman floating in the water.
Police said that the 6-year-old girl was pulled to safety after boat riders saw her clinging to the corpse in an upstate New York lake.
Town of Carmel Sgt. John Dearman said three people were fishing at Lake Gleneida in Putnam County at 5:00 pm on Monday, when they saw the girl holding onto an unidentified object in the distance.
They soon realized that she clung to the floating body of a woman about 50-years-old.
They took the girl to safety and called police. An autopsy was performed to determine why the woman died.
The girl was unharmed.
Apparently, the two had been getting into the water together before the incident.
The woman was a friend of the girl's mother. Their names were not immediately released.
