(Scroll down for video) A dog is a man’s best friend. Dogs love and protect their owners. Many stories have been shared about dogs that have saved children from burning homes and from other dangers.

In this unfortunate, hard to watch incident, a pit bull was shot for trying to protect its owner.

Johnny Rodriguez went to see a doctor in New York. On his way to the doctor, he fell to the ground as he was having a seizure. His head was twitching and shaking.

Many people who saw the man lying on the ground close to the road, were frightened and unable to help him in his medical crisis because his pit bull was very protective and did not let anyone come close to Rodriguez, so they called police for help.

As the police officers approached the man, his dog started running around wildly. Suddenly, the dog ran towards a woman pulling her pants, then it ran up to one of the police officers.

The officer who had a gun in his hand, shot the dog, which sent the dog writhing in pain. The dog eventually stopped moving and was laying in a pool of blood.

Luckily, the dog is still alive and is being treated at an animal hospital. We wish the dog and its owner a speedy recovery.
