A woman was killed after giving her life to rescue animals.
Police outside Atlanta, Georgia, said that a college student, who rescued abandoned animals, was attacked and killed by a dog.
The DeKalb County police said that 23-year-old Rebecca Carey was killed at her home in Decatur, at some point during the weekend.
Authorities said that Carey had five dogs living with her at the time of her death. Among them was a pit bull that she had for six years. The woman also lived with a boxer mix dog and a large Spanish breed dog. Authorities said that she was dog sitting another dog named Presa, for a friend.
The friend discovered her body on Sunday afternoon, after Carey did not appear to work at Alpharetta Loving Hands Animal Clinic.
DeKalb County Police spokesperson Mekka Parish said that all dogs were euthanized on Wednesday.
