A little boy was found decapitated with his head placed in the freezer inside a home located in Camden, New Jersey.

A New Jersey woman, who regained custody of her little son just five months ago, apparently decapitated her 2-year-old boy before taking her own life. She was seen sitting on the front steps shortly before the incident, topless and distraught.

Melanie Troutman, a neighbor, said she saw 33-year-old Chevonne Thomas sitting with her boyfriend in front of her house in Camden, New Jersey, around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Troutman said that the woman was clearly upset.

She said her boyfriend took her back inside the house a little later.

Police said she apparently beheaded Zahree Thomas and put his head in the freezer before calling police immediately after midnight on Tuesday, to report something had happened to her son.

Court records show that Thomas faced dozens of lawsuits and liens filed in the Civil Court of New Jersey, dating back to 2002.

Authorities said Thomas had regained custody of her son just five months ago. Prosecutors said that she lost custody in 2010, when she had left the child alone in a car.

At that time, authorities said she admitted having smoked marijuana mixed with PCP and fainting in a park.
