A man figured out a scheme that led him to acquire store gift cards for free.

Police said that a western Pennsylvania man, who engaged in a toilet robbery scheme, did not end with a clean seat.

32-year-old Bobby Clifford Smith III faces theft related charges for allegedly stealing and exchanging a toilet that he did not buy for gift cards at a home improvement store in Somerset County.

State police said that Smith of Windber, entered the store, took a toilet from the store shelf and went immediately to the return line to exchange it.

He received more than $600 in gift cards.
Investigators said that surveillance footage from the store captured the entire episode.

Smith was charged on Tuesday, and was held in jail on $30,000 bail.

Police did not say if the man has a criminal record, or if he ever had successfully stolen store merchandise and exchanged it for gift cards.
