|Everyone searching for the lost ring|
Everyone was waiting for the ring, but it was nowhere to be found.
As Elizabeth Gray and Lewis Aubrey were in the final stages of becoming husband and wife in a church outside London, England, the ceremony was suddenly interrupted.
"Suddenly, you just hear a noise that sounded like a metal drop and the priest asks the best man: "Was that the ring? And he said: 'Yes.’ Then all eyes turned to the ground,” according to a witness at the scene.
"When I heard the noise I assumed it had fallen on the floor and was just going to be a foot away from my foot," said Aubrey. "When I looked down to see, there was no sign of it."
Everyone at the ceremony joined the search, but no one in the congregation was able to locate the ring.
"No one knew where it had gone," said Gray. "I was kind of thinking, Oh, God, the show must go on. I stood at the altar, all my friends and family were here, I need to get married."
Gray had spent six months looking for the perfect ring and the best man who was chosen, was not only the best friend of Aubrey, it was his brother, Matt. Unable to find the ring, they went on with the wedding ceremony, using the mother's ring.
"It's something that felt good and it felt right to use my mother’s ring because it means something. So I used her ring and continued with the service," Gray told said.
After the service, the newlyweds took photos and went to the reception, while guests stayed behind and searched the church for the ring in vain. After eating dinner the priest of the church returned, determined to find it.
"In the end, there was a space between the step and the platform," said Rev. Nicholas Calver. "I thought I should be there, so I separated it with a shovel to make the gap bigger. I aimed a flashlight down and saw the ring. I was delighted to find it."
Calver made his way to the reception venue with the ring and gave it to Matt Aubrey, who entered the reception room triumphantly holding the ring.
"My brother was holding the ring and ran around the room," Aubrey said. "The priest really blessed the marriage, and so I kind of was married twice. The priest is definitely a hero," Gray said.
