A man who admitted to police to sleeping around with farm animals, was jailed in Florida.

The man who was arrested after telling police he masturbated with a donkey, told a Florida court this week that he wants his donkey back.

"There must be due process here. I paid $500 for the donkey," said the 31-year-old Carlos Romero.

However, Marion County officials want custody of the miniature donkey named Doodle, and plan to put it up for adoption. The animal appeared in good condition after the alleged abuse.

Romero pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual activity with an animal and animal cruelty. His bail was set at $2,000 and was placed in the Marion County Jail.

He was arrested Monday on a farm after farm owner Gerald James told the police about the incident on August 15.

According to a police report, James said he was delivering a horse when Romero was allegedly shirtless with his pants down, appearing to have sex with a donkey in an equipment room.

When police interviewed Romero, he told them he had used his fingers to clean the genitals of the animal and usually gets excited to see the animals in heat. The sexual contact was an accident, he told police.

Police said he also admitted to masturbating with the animal five or six times, and called Florida "backwards" because people did not welcome bestiality.

In an interview from prison, Romero said he "has never been a people person", and has always had an attraction for horses.

"I have a sexual excitement with animals more than humans. I would have had sex with Doodle", but he said that he did not because "it is still blossoming into maturity."

In a twist, Romero said it was James, who should have been arrested for violation of privacy and being a "Peeping Tom."

James however, said that he did not want Romero, who promised to get out of jail and back with Doodle, anywhere near the farm.

"Nobody feels comfortable with him," he said.
