Two teens were charged in connection with the death of the 5-year-old girl from New York, whose body was dumped in a trash can. They are expected to make an appearance in court for the first time since their arrest.
Authorities said 16-year-old John Freeman and 18-year-old Tyler Best, are scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, in Niagara Falls City Court. The autopsy results from the body of Isabella Tennant are also scheduled for Tuesday.
The arrests came after Best came to the police on Monday morning, and took them to a trash can containing a trash bag holding the body of Isabella. He said he helped dispose her body with Freeman after Freeman said she had died, police said.
Isabella’s family had called police on Monday morning, to say that she was missing from her grandmother’s Niagara Falls home, where she had been staying for the night. Isabella’s grandmother said that the last time she had seen her was on Sunday night, with Freeman, a neighbor and a family friend said.
Authorities said it appeared that Isabella had died without any weapons being involved.
Police have charged Freeman as an adult and he faces a murder charge. Best is accused of tampering with evidence.
In a news conference on Monday afternoon, Niagara Falls Detective Chief William Thompson said that there were signs of injury, but there is no indication of sexual abuse.
