A man who was showing how to handle a gun, shot himself in the head and killed himself, according to reports.

The South Carolina man, who once shot and killed a robber, died after shooting himself in the head, apparently while watching a firearm scene in a movie.

James Gagum, 43, of Conway, was sitting in an armchair, watching a movie last Thursday night, when witnesses said he pointed the gun at his head and said: "That's not how it is done."

Witnesses told Horry County Police that when the gun went off Gagum pulled the trigger a second time, committing suicide.

Gagum was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting was ruled an accident, police said.

Gagum made headlines in 2010, when he shot and killed one of three intruders in his home. Gagum and his wife were held at gunpoint by thieves demanding cash and valuables. After a brief struggle, Gagum shot the man, while the other two suspects fled.

Gagum was not charged in the incident.
