A man got scared from a home invader who was on his property, so he took his gun and shot him, according to reports.

Pueblo County authorities said that a 45-year-old faces manslaughter charges after an intruder was shot dead.
Dennis Pratt II is accused of shooting 20-year-old Jacob Maldonado on Tuesday.

Authorities said that Pratt told them about the theft of several thousand dollars in batteries, radiators and metal that had been stolen from his 160-acre property recently, and wanted to catch the suspects.

According to the Pueblo Chief, a police report said that Pratt did not report the theft to the Sheriff's Office of Pueblo County and therefore, the shooting is not covered by the state "Make My Day" law.

That law allows owners who believe they are in danger of using deadly force.

Pratt hid in his yard in order to catch the thieves and when he saw men with flashlights he shot at them. One man was hit and he died, according to reports.
