A popular TV star died after a liposuction operation went bad, according to reports.

Pamela Baris Nascimento, 27, who appeared as the glamorous assistant in programs of several Brazilian primetime game shows, suffered a perforated liver and lost a lot of blood before dying of a heart attack.

The surgeon who performed the operation, has been accused of trying to cover up the death, which occurred two weeks ago, and could face charges of manslaughter.

After her death at the Green Hill Clinic in Sao Paulo, the body of Nascimento was buried in her hometown of Sao Francisco do Sul.
However, the alarm sounded for her family when they learned that her death had not been registered by the hospital.

Smelling a rat, the aunt of Nascimento, Enedida, called Sao Paulo police who immediately launched an investigation, saying they would exhume the body and look to charge Dr. Julio Yoshimura with a homicide.

Evandro Luiz de Mello Lemos, the officer in charge of the case, said: "Everything suggests that the procedure was successful. But usually, in the case of an accident, it should have been reported to the police.”

The family lawyer of Nascimento, Neto Malheiros Lauro, said: “The surgeon said she died of a liver hemorrhage, but he did not mention the cause of it."

He added: "To make a mistake, and then trying to cover up his own mistake, is extremely serious.”

In a statement, the hospital said it had launched an internal investigation into how Nascimento died for what was reportedly her third liposuction operation.
