A suburban Chicago woman was charged Wednesday with murder in the death of two children, the DuPage County prosecutor said.

Elzbieta Plackowska, 40, of Naperville, faces charges of first-degree murder, State Attorney Robert Berlin said.

Police found the children, one of whom was a kindergartner, after having been called to check on a home in a quiet cul de sac. Officials declined to give details about how the children were killed or give their names. Police said that there was no reason to believe that others were involved in the crime.

Plackowska was scheduled to appear for a bond hearing in Wheaton on Thursday. Berlin declined to comment beyond a written statement, which did not say whether she had an attorney.

Officers were called to the Naperville home Tuesday night for a welfare check, Sgt. Cammiso Louis said. He did not elaborate on what exactly led to the welfare check or who made the call.
Berlin said he and Police Chief Robert Marshall of Naperville will provide more information about the crime in a press conference after a court appearance.
