Drunk driver kills 19-year-old woman on way to hospital to give birth

A woman on her way to a hospital to give birth, was killed by a drunk driver, according to police reports.

Tiffany Ann Woodham, 19, died Sunday, shortly after Thomas Jeremy Dick, 37, drove his van into the vehicle traveling on a Winter Haven, Florida, highway.

Doctors tried to save the child, who had already been named "Novalee" by her dead mother, by performing an emergency cesarean section, but the baby died from injuries sustained in the horrible accident.

The fatal accident occurred just minutes after Woodham called her mother to say that she was having contractions.

Woodham was in the van with three other people when Dick, who witnesses said was driving recklessly, rear-ended them.

Dick of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was going 20 mph over the speed limit before the accident and was riding
off the road more than once, authorities said.

The 37-year-old had a blood alcohol levelof .131, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08 in the state, according to initial tests. His blood was also taken for further analysis.

Dick, who suffered several bruises and cuts, faces charges of vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, DUI causing serious bodily injury, DUI accident involving property damage and DUI.

Two passengers in the van with Woodham were taken to a local hospital and are in stable condition. A third was flown to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
