Judy Garland's blue and white gingham dress from "The Wizard of Oz" sold for $480,000 at auction in Beverly Hills, California, on Saturday.
Julien’s Auctions said the price for the apron dress and white blouse with puffy sleeves that Garland had worn on the all classic film of 1939 was in line with expectations.
But it was well below the through the roof figures of last year paid for Hollywood costumes worn by
Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, and a similar dress worn during rehearsals of "The Wizard of Oz", which reached $910,000 in 2011.
Auctioneer Darren Julien said the difference in price is due to the fact that only a few test dresses were made for "The Wizard of Oz", while there are around seven versions of the signature Garland gingham apron.
The buyer of Judy Garland's dress, made by MGM costume designer Adrian, was not identified.
