A 5-year-old girl caused a deadly helicopter crash, according to aviation officials.
A federal accident report said that a food service billionaire, an owner of a well known company, allowed his 5-year-old daughter to sit on his lap in the passenger seat of his helicopter.
That apparently caused an accident near Phoenix, Arizona, in 2010, which killed five people after kicking the flight controls.
The National Transportation Safety Board investigated the accident that killed Services Group of America owner Thomas J. Stewart for nearly three years before releasing its report on Wednesday.
The report said taht it is "highly probable" that the girl suddenly pushed down a control and either Stewart or the pilot of the company quickly dropped. That made the rotor blades fold and strike the tail of the helicopter.
The conclusion is questioned by the lawyer of the family of the pilot and Stewart's private enterprise. SGA moved to Arizona from Seattle in 2006.
