Man lights himself on fire while attempting to evade arrest

A young man wanted to escape prison, so he came up with a plan, which backfired on him. The man took a cigarette lighter out of his back pocket, in an attempt to burn through the handcuffs from his arms. He was unsuccessful as his shirt caught on fire burning his back.

A police officer heard his cries and came to his rescue. The officer unlocked the prison cell while another office brought water to put the fire out.

The man was taken to a hospital to treat his third degree burn wounds.

The United States prides itself on being a democratic country and the land of the free. Nobody likes to be locked up and lose their freedom, but when one commits a crime they are arrested and locked up for the safety of the public.

Most people have no choice but to accept the punishment, while others try break out of prison and escape. Most of the time, prisoners are caught during their attempt of escaping prison.
Over the years, some inmates have been successful in breaking out of prison and when it happens, every effort is made by authorities to recapture the criminal and bring them back to prison.

Escaping from prison is a criminal offense, and when caught it usually results in time being added to the inmate's sentence, as well as the inmate being placed under increased security.
