Boy killed in car crash on his way home from undergoing brain surgery

A 10-year-old boy who was on his way home after having a tumor removed from his brain, died in a car accident.

The tragic accident occurred along a slippery road on Tuesday, in southern Minnesota.

10-year-old Vander Reich, was on his way home from brain surgery when another car crashed into his father's truck, killing him and his father instantly.

Jack Reich, a longtime official and former president of Association of North Dakota Stockmen, was driving his wife and son home to North Dakota, after his son Vander was released from Saint Marys Hospital. Suddenly, his Chevy Suburban collided head-on with a pickup truck near Dodge Center, Minnesota.

Sadly, Reich and his son were killed instantly. His wife Mardee was seriously injured and she was flown back to St. Marys Hospital in serious condition.

Scott Hodgman of West Concord, the driver of the pickup truck, also died at the scene. Police said that all four people were wearing seat belts and are investigating the cause of the accident.

Vander was very close with his father during his lifetime and is now accompanied by his father in death. Jack and son Vander leave behind their mother Mardee, sister Kaydee, and brother Will Reich.

Services for father and son was held on Wednesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Beulah, with the Reverend Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery, Beulah.
