(Scroll down for video) A dog saved an elderly doctor, who went missing for three days, according to reports.

Chase is a 4-year-old German shepherd, and a Suffolk County, New York, police dog. It is a hero that saves lives.

When 76-year-old Dr. Jerome Nadler, an internist in East Setauket, failed to return from a solo fishing trip, New York State Park Police used helicopters, boats, divers, foot patrols and dogs, searching the 543 acre Caleb Smith State Park, where he disappeared.

Chase found Dr. Nadler, when he was semiconscious and most likely suffered from exposure. Dr. Nadler was found lying on his back, dressed, unable to speak and had a million insect bites on him, police said.

Chase stayed with the physician until police arrived, refusing to leave his side despite being called by his handler.

"This is a very happy day for me now," Dr. Matthew Nadler of Stony Brook told reporters outside the hospital where his father had been airlifted only a few hours before. He added, "This is a miraculous story."

Thanks to Chase, Dr. Nadler is expected to fully recover.
