A popular lesbian soccer player was brutally stabbed to death with a spear by a group of gangsters, according to reports.
According to Ndumie Funda, director of Luleki Sizwe, which is an organization that helps young lesbian victims of so-called corrective rapes, a young lesbian from South Africa, was killed by a group of gangsters.
Sihle Skotshi was a soccer player and was only 19 years old when she was killed. Skotshi was one of the girls in the group assisted by the organization, Luleki Sizwe.
The attack took place in the settlement of Cosovo in Phillipi, a Cape Town township.
According to a witness interviewed by Funda, Skotshi, along with two of her friends, left a bar where they were drinking to get more money from the home of one of the girls.
When they arrived, five or more men began to curse them saying “this is not your place, this is a place of Amavura,” meaning that this is the area known to belong to the feared gangster group.
The men attacked the girls and stabbedl Skotshi with a spear in the chest. One of her friends tried to intervene and was stabbed in the arm, while the other friend ran for help.
Skotshi was hospitalized, but died shortly after. According to the report, Skotshi told her friend before she died: "Please apologize to my mother, and I love you all." Skotshi’s brutal murder is the latest in a series of murders against lesbians in South Africa.
The organization described Skotshi as a kind woman to those who knew her. She was a popular soccer player and was working to save money to continue her education.
