(Scroll down for video) A man who went shoplifting at Walmart, didn't think that the shoplifting would lead to his death, according to police reports.
The suspected burglar was killed early Sunday, after a confrontation with employees of Walmart and a security guard in the parking lot of the store located in Lithonia, Georgia.
According to DeKalb County police reports, officers arrived around 1:30 a.m., to find employees on top of the middle-aged man, who was allegedly caught stealing two DVD players from the store.
When an officer placed the man in handcuffs, he realized that the man did not resist. It was then that he realized that the man was unconscious, and bleeding from the nose and mouth.
Paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Further investigation revealed that a physical altercation took place in the parking lot. One employee reportedly had placed the man in a choke hold. The cause of death however, has not been determined.
Dianna Gee, a spokeswoman for Walmart, issued a statement saying that the two employees had been placed on paid leave. She said the security guard no longer works at the store.
"No amount of goods is worth someone's life," Gee said in a statement. "Associates are trained to withdraw from situations that put themselves or others at risk," she added.
