The woman from Los Angeles, California, is facing manslaughter charges after the fatal drunk driving accident killed the 31-year-old man, authorities said.
Sherri Wilkins, 51, of Torrance, was driving drunk when she crashed into victim Phillip Moreno on Saturday night, and then drove more than two miles with his body stuck on the hood, Torrance police said.
"He was literally embedded in the hood and the windshield," Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said. Wilkins finally stopped after a group of people spotted Moreno on the hood and swarmed her car.
Moreno was conscious when paramedics arrived, but died later in a hospital. His friend said that he had been hanging out in a bar on Torrance Boulevard, and was crossing the street when he was hit.
Wilkins' blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, police said. She was jailed on charges of drunken driving and manslaughter.
A group of friends gathered to mourn Moreno Sunday in the bar he was last at. "I cannot believe he's gone," his cousin, David Garibay, said. "He did not deserve to die."
