A Cleveland, Ohio, woman has been arrested for the death of her 3-year-old son after police found what they believe is the body of the boy inside a waste treatment plant, officials said.
Cleveland police said Monday, they are holding Camilia Terry, 20, in the Cuyahoga County Jail pending charges in the death of her son, Emilliano Terry.
"We come here with a heavy heart, I'm sure you understand. Today, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a body of a small child matching the description of Emilliano Terry, was discovered in a waste treatment plant in Oakwood Village," Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said.
"So, in other words, right now, we are treating this as a homicide rather than a missing or abducted person."
An autopsy will be conducted today to determine how Terry died.
Camilia Terry told police her son disappeared just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday, as she was pushing one of her other children on a swing in Kossuth Park.
"I'm calling because I'm in a park and my son is gone," Terry told a 911 operator. "How long has it been since the last time you saw him?" A 911 operator asked.
"Fifteen minutes ago. I was looking everywhere for him, I cannot find him," the mother of three children said while sobbing to the dispatcher.
The police and the FBI began looking for the boy on Sunday. A volunteer group, The Guardian Angels, searched garages and houses in the area.
Police located the dead boy at the garbage dump after following a garbage collecting company truck picking up the trash in the area.
