Children capture lion then show it off at school

(Scroll down for video) Several school children spotted a wandering lion one day, as they were playing outside.

They decided to capture the lion, and then brought the lion to school to show it off to their friends, according to press reports.

Most elementary school children are happy to get a goldfish, a hamster or a turtle if they are lucky, as a house pet. But children of a village in southern Russia, got to play with the lion.

Children of the Rostov region, found the lion, which was estimated to be about 5 months old, in the street Wednesday, and brought it to school to show it to their teacher and friends, who kept the lion in the school gymnasium, police said Thursday.

While waiting for the police, children stroked and played with the lion, named Barsik. One child even tried to ride the lion like a horse while it meowed the student into the air.

The lion had escaped from a car on the way to a zoo in Dagestan, in the North Caucasus, according to press reports. It has now been removed from the school and placed in a local zoo.
