(Scroll down for video) A murderer told police during an investigation that he just enjoys killing people, according to police reports.
Israel Keyes, a confessed serial murderer, admitted that he enjoyed killing people, but could not or would not give investigators a more significant answer when asked why he did it.
"There were times, only a couple of times, when we would try to get a reason out of him," Anchorage police officer Jeff Bell, who helped interrogate Keyes for hours, said. "He always said: 'A lot of people ask why, and I'd be, like, why not?'" Bell said.
Keyes confessed to killing eight people in the United States, but Bell hinted to new murders, FBI special agent Jolene Goeden said. "Based on some of the things he had spoken about, and some of the conversations I had with him, I believe that the number is less than 12," Goeden said. "I do not know for sure. He is the only one who could have answered that ultimately.”
We may never know the real number. Keyes cut his wrist and strangled himself with bedding last week at the Anchorage Correctional Facility. He faced trial on federal murder charges in March in the kidnapping and death of a 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who was abducted from an Anchorage coffee stand.
