A little child begged police officers to babysit at home after being left alone, according to police reports.

A Florida mother is facing negligence charges for leaving her three children home alone while she went shopping and then telling police that she thought her eldest child, who is 5 years old, was old enough to babysit.

Osceola Sheriff's Deputies who arrived at the door of Yvonne Rodriguez, in Kissimmee, said on Saturday, that they were greeted by the child who said: "Officers, mom is not here. I'm watching my sisters. Can you watch them now?" According to reports.

The 23-year-old mother came home about two hours later, and told police that she had been shopping, surfing gadgets at Best Buy and getting her nails done.

At first, she said that she asked a friend to watch the kids, but later confessed to leaving them alone. She thought her year 5-year-old child was mature enough to take care of his sisters, police said in a statement.

The mom was charged with three counts of child neglect and was released from jail on bail. Child protection officials sent the children to stay with their grandparents, according to press reports.

Neighbors said that they did not know if Rodriguez left the children alone before. "Anything can happen, a fire or they could choke on something. It's very irresponsible," the neighbor said.
