7-Eleven employee fakes robbery to cover up theft

A convenience store employee stole money from the register and then made it look like a robbery.

The employee at 7-Eleven in Colorado, was arrested after stealing the money and then faked a robbery to cover up the theft, Colorado Springs Police said.

Tyler Klein, 19, was arrested on felony theft and providing false information to police after stealing $4,700 from the 7-Eleven store where he was working.

Police arrived at the store located at 2825 Briargate Blvd, after the alarm at the store went off at 11:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found Klein on the floor.

He pretended to be knocked out. Klein told officers that he had been beaten and robbed, police said.

Police canvassed the area after receiving a description of the suspect from Klein, but the hunt was unproductive and investigators found no evidence to corroborate the allegations.

After investigating, officers realized Klein was lying. He later admitted that he made ​​up the story to cover up his theft of $4,700.
