Bus driver returns $500,000 cash found on bus

A woman thought all is lost after losing her entire fortune on a bus in Vienna, Austria, according to press reports.

However, a bus driver in Vienna, found a bag with €390,000 or $509,700 in cash, and handed the money over to the police. The police located the old woman who had left behind her unexplained wealth.

The driver, identified by the Vienna transport authority only as R Wolfgang, was inspecting his vehicle at the end of his route when he found the bag on the seat behind him.

"At first I thought it was a shopping or medicine bag," he said. However, when he opened the bag he found a collection of 500 euro bills that added up to more than a half a million U.S. dollars.

The Austrian capital police used a bank deposit slip inside the bag to identify the owner. There was no word on whether the woman had given the honest driver a reward.
