A van full of schoolchildren on its way to school fell into a lake, killing at least 11 children, according to police reports.
The van incident occurred in eastern Jiangxi province, China.
The van in which the children were traveling fell into the lake this morning on their way to school. Three children died on the spot while eight others died after medical efforts failed, according to press reports.
A total of 16 people were in the van at the time of the incident.
A specific reason why the van full of schoolchildren fell into the lake and the ages of the children
who were killed, were not given by authorities. However, a source said that the van was carrying kindergarten children.
Another report said that the schoolchildren were between the ages of 6 and 8. Four children survived the incident, according to press reports.
One report said that the van was traveling too fast and swerved into the lake in order to avoid hitting other vehicles. According to a witness, the van was made to carry seven passengers. However, that morning, the van was carrying at least 20 passengers.
