(Scroll down for video) A police officer is in hot water after being caught on camera beating the head of a man, according to video uploaded to the Internet.
Sarasota County, Florida, police officer Patrick Scott, is under an internal investigation by the police department and a criminal investigation by the State Attorney's Office after he admitted to beating the man ten times in the head during an arrest for disorderly intoxication.
Sarasota Police Chief Mikel Hollaway, released the video of the incident today. The incident happened recently in the Ivory Club on Main Street.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, when 29-year-old Jason Dragash resisted arrest, an altercation began.
Officer Patrick and Dragash fell on a table with beer bottles. Officer Patrick then went on to punch Dragash in the head ten times.
Chief Hollaway said that when the shift commander arrived, Dragash injuries alarmed him. He asked to see the surveillance video of the nightclub, and immediately launched an internal and criminal investigation.
Chief Hollaway assured the community that the case will be thoroughly investigated. Hollaway said: "I want you all to know that we are taking these allegations seriously."
Officer Patrick is on administrative leave. He has been with the Sarasota Police Department for nine years.
Both the internal investigation of the police department and the criminal investigation of the State Attorney’s Office should be completed soon.
