|Rescue helicopter crashing into ocean|
(Scroll down for video) A helicopter crashed into the water during a rescue operation in front of thousands of tourists at a beach, according to video uploaded to the Internet.
A Fire Department helicopter fell from the sky in Copacabana, the famous beach in south Rio de Janeiro, as the team tried to rescue a swimmer struggling to reach land. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, according to police reports from Brazil.
The accident happened around 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, near the luxurious Copacabana Palace Hotel, and was caused by an undetermined mechanical failure, the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department said.
The helicopter fell at Brazil's most famous beach and its four crew members were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A surfer swimmer was rescued after the helicopter crashed, the fire department said. Initial reports said that the helicopter flew at low altitude and was flooded by a wave, but fire department officials denied that this occurred.
The helicopter will be refloated and moved from the beach to the Center for Research and Aviation Accident Prevention center.
Hundreds of swimmers in Copacabana, gathered to watch the rescue. Copacabana is full of visitors in recent days due to a heat wave in Rio de Janeiro.
