(Scroll down for video) A little child who unwrapped a new gift teddy bear, was shocked to discover that it came with a real gun, according to press reports in New York.

The incident happened at a gift-giving event for foster children, which was disrupted when it went terribly wrong.

The event was held in the Harlem section of New York City.

What looked like a revolver was discovered by an 8-year-old girl, while unwrapping the donated teddy bear in front of her foster mother Sheba Anderson.

"She held the teddy bear, then she was waving a gun around and I was surprised," she said. The girl, Natasha, said that when she saw the gun she was not afraid. “I thought it was a toy,” she said.

But Charlie Hu, who is a Manhattan gun expert, said it was not a toy.

"It seems to be a starting gun, you know, the kind used to start a foot race, designed to fire blanks, but nonetheless dangerous in the hands of a child,” Hu said.
