A man was jailed after he tried to rob a store and his getaway plan failed.

The man did not have a proper getaway plan and it all backfired when he had to call his mother to be the “getaway” driver.

22-year-old Zachariah Dalton Howard of Florida, entered the “Thumbs-Up Convenience Store” in Niceville, around 10:00 p.m., where he demanded money and he told the cashier that he had a gun, but never showed the weapon.

The robbery attempt failed when the employee opened the cash register and showed Howard that it did not contain any money.

Investigators said that Howard fled and went to a nearby grocery store, where he called his mother and asked her pick him up.

Howard was identified as the would-be thief and arrested him shortly thereafter. During an interview with detectives, Howard said that when he entered the store he did not intend to rob the store, but decided to commit the theft when he was already inside.

The officers determined that Howard did not have a gun with him at the time of the attempted robbery. Howard was booked into the Okaloosa County Jail and charged with robbery without a weapon or firearm. His bail was set at $15,000.
