Passengers on a Qantas flight from Cairns, Australia, to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, had a surprise worth for an action movie, when they saw the 10-foot python hanging outside their airplane.

"There's a snake on the wing," a woman aboard the flight told crew members on Thursday. "There is the head and if you look closely you can see a small part of its body,” the woman added.

Fellow passengers initially laughed at the woman.

"There was no panic," Robert Weber, a passenger who caught the reptile on video, said. "At no time did anyone stop to consider that there may be a snake riding along with us," he said.

Weber said that the snake seemed to have found a safe place under the wing of the plane until the wind picked up and swept the snake off, leaving it hanging for its life.

"I felt very sad for it, really," Weber said. "For the rest of the flight, it was trying to pull itself back
on the wing, even though it was fighting winds at 250 miles per hour," he said.

The snake was able to move its way back to safety on several occasions while enduring cold weather of 10 degrees. But high-altitude bursts continued hitting it to the side of the plane.

A Qantas spokesperson said that it was the first time a snake has hitchhiked with the airline.

"They often find their way into areas closer to our homes, but I've never heard of one on a plane before," he said.
