|Car in Valentinos To Go restaurant|
(Scroll down for video) An elderly man drove his car into a pizza store and then ordered some pizza for himself from inside the crashed car, according to eyewitnesses at the scene in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The man may have drove his car through the front door of the pizza restaurant in Lincoln, Nebraska, causing severe damage, but he still made the best of a bad situation.
Shortly before noon on Wednesday, an old man got his foot stuck on the accelerator of his car and drove right into Valentinos To Go restaurant. While concerned citizens called 911, the man placed an order for a pizza.
The man placed his order from inside his car. Witnesses at the scene said that the man did not appear to be injured or in shock by what had happened.
"He seemed very calm and serene. That surprised me," one witness said. The driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution. No one was injured in the restaurant.
The Department of Health came to the restaurant to make sure none of the food had been contaminated during the crash.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Leo Benes said that the fact that the driver ordered a pizza was a good thing, because it showed that he was alert after the accident. The real tragedy here seems to be that he did not receive his pizza before being sent to the hospital.
The man's car, a Honda Fit, was the perfect size to fit right through the restaurant door, causing no significant structural damage. However, the restaurant had to close for the day, to clean up the major mess and damage to its furniture.
A manager of Valentinos To Go restaurant, who was present at the time of the accident, said that the restaurant already has installed a new door.
