Indian police have arrested six suspects in the gang rape of the passenger bus in India, four weeks after a similar attack of a student in the capital caused outrage across the country.

Police officer Jeet Raj Singh said that the 29-year-old woman was the only passenger on a bus on her way to her village in the northern state of Punjab on Friday evening. The driver refused to stop at her location despite her repeated requests and took her to a desolate place, he said.

There, the driver and the conductor took her to a building where they were joined by five friends who took turns raping her throughout the night, Singh said.

The driver dropped of the woman at her stop on Saturday morning, he added. Singh said police arrested six suspects on Saturday, and were looking for another.

Deputy Superintendent Gurmej Singh said that all six suspects arrested admitted to the violation. He said the victim is recovering at home.
